Local farmer's markets promote Sustainability:

"My dream for this community market has always been to support a more sustainable and responsible lifestyle.
Our town of Hopefield has a community full of passion, filled with resilliance and great and diverse talents.
Our market is a central meeting and trading hub where locals come to support and inspire each other.
We believe that by standing together, we can live in a united community, able to thrive regardless of any challenge we might face...."
-Lizana de Jongh (co-founder)-

We believe in:

Buying locally:
By buying from your local small farmer or gardener, you are supporting local agriculture.  This means that you are eating food in your own environment, where it has perfectly created nutrients for your specific climate and region.

Cheaper fresh produce:
Supporting locally, ensures a greater selection of naturally grown produce or freshly baked goods at more affordable prices then that of your retailer.  This is a direct result of cutting back on transport costs and getting rid of the
"middle man".

Supporting the local economy:
You are supporting individuals, rather than big business, therefor voting with your money for a more sustainable community.  Your money directly benefits every family involved in the market and contributes to a little girl's ballet class, a pensioner's income, young entrepreneur or start-up business' dream.

Eating seasonally:
You will eat seasonal, fresh and ripe produce- another great way to increase your overall health!  Local retailers offer too much variety and the food is picked before it has ripened, decreasing the vitality.   Out-of-season produce available at retailers are mostly in cold-chain for a long time and therefor negatively impacting the nutritional value of the produce.

Safer food:
Meeting or knowing your local farmer or baker,  you have the opportunity to varify how your vegetables were grown,  and exactly which ingredients went into the making of a certain product.

The environment:
You are also supporting the environment by reducing the usage of fossil fuels, therefor minimising your carbon footprint.

Community:
Get to know your neighbours!  People of all ages who feel a sense of belonging tend to lead happier and healthier lives, and strong communities create a more stable and supportive society.
